Asara, Seat of Imperial Power

This Photon Stream features Asara-class Starbase, currently our largest and most capable space station class. Asara, whose name means "Oasis", is an older starbase design which has seen many retrofits and design enhancements over the years.

The starbase's primary structure consists of a core segment, two pylons, and an outer ring.

The core segment includes the command deck, a transport pod hangar bay, various station system control and engineering rooms, the molecular reconstructor chamber, the primary transporter room, and the Arana's throne room.

The pylons hold observation decks and several docking ports for small transport vessels, along with telescoping 'snap' tubes, which can reach out and mate with the docking ports of larger visiting starships. They also contain some power infrastructure and other critical systems.

The outer ring holds the primary shuttle bays, station defenses, crew quarters and accommodations, cargo storage, manufacturing facilities, and other systems and facilities required for the day-to-day running of the station and to provide comfort and safety to personnel stationed aboard.

The unloading dock automatically unloads cargo from freighters and mining vessels, then beams it to the main station's storage bays.

Asara's shipyard, suspended in place beneath the main station, is capable of constructing up to battleship-sized vessels. The dockyard node above it accommodates modular, tubular connecting structures which can be used to dock starships or affixed to one another, allowing the Imperial Navy to reconfigure and expand the dockyard as needed. This node also functions as the control centre for the shipyard itself.

The starbase is defended by 5 Daizhaan short-range beam sphere turrets, 8 longer-range beam spires, and 4 cannon turrets. Its power grid can support the mounting of further defensive measures (such as capital-class heavy sentry spheres) should the need arise.

In the upper portion of the station core structure, above the transport pod bays and command bridge, stands the throne of the Emperor, along with a second seat for... uh... someone... or... something.
